Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
with Barbara MacDonald
I'm Barbara MacDonald, a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist based in Glasgow. I am a member of COSCA (Counselling and Psychotherapy in Scotland) and I follow their ethical guidelines and standards of practice. I have a degree in Psychology and I am able to work with adults and young people who are 16+
Primarily I work from a CBT perspective but I also incorporate Compassion Focused Therapy into my counselling practice. I have a background in Mindfulness and find that this calming approach works well within the therapy room, as everyone needs a quiet space to relax and de-stress at times. In session I use a collaborative approach in a confidential, safe environment to support you through a difficult time in your life.
I believe that working together is the key to success and throughout the journey we will focus on your goals and aspirations to enable you to move forward with your life.
What is CBT
CBT is a form of talking therapy. It works on the premise that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and behaviours are all interconnected and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle.
CBT combines a cognitive approach (what you think) with a behavioural approach (what you do), working with your current problems rather than focusing on issues from the past. In session we will work together to break down any problems into smaller parts, making them easier to manage.

A course of treatment usually lasts between 12 and 20 sessions with each session being 45-50 minutes long. We will meet regularly and after we have worked out what you want to change, you will be able to practice these changes in your daily life to improve the way you feel.
Services I offer
Taking the first step into therapy can be a daunting task and to make that easier, I offer a free 15 minute phone discussion for you to find out if CBT is for you. Thereafter sessions cost between £50 - £60 depending on how we meet, phone, online or face to face.
